What is Integrative Yoga Therapy?

IYT is a therapeutic model that integrates Yoga Therapy and Integrative Psychotherapy to provide a deeply impactful and personalized framework for whole-person healing. Explore this site or get in touch to learn more!

What conditions do you work with?

There are many physical and mental health conditions that Integrative Yoga Therapy is well suited to support folks with.

These include:

  • Stress, anxiety, trauma, and other forms of dysregulation

  • Burnout and fatigue

  • Depression or grief

  • Persistent pain and tension

  • Digestive issues

  • Sleep disturbances

  • Various chronic mental or physical health issues

  • Disconnection from body, boundaries, or inner sense of self

  • Significant life changes, loss of identity, or inner transformation

  • Difficulties around emotional expression or overwhelm

  • A sense of being stuck in the healing process, or the desire to process challenging experiences using nonverbal tools

  • The desire for a grounded framework in which to explore energetic or awakening experiences

If you are experiencing acute mental or physical health concerns, please prioritize your safety by contacting a medical provider or licensed psychotherapist. Integrative Yoga Therapy is not a replacement for these forms of treatment.

Do I have to be flexible or mobile to participate?

Absolutely not. IYT aims to meet your mind and body exactly where they are, and it is entirely possible to go through a whole series of IYT sessions without doing a single yoga posture. We will focus in on your unique needs and preferences to develop a therapeutic plan that truly serves you.

Do I have to believe in anything spiritual or religious? How does IYT mix with my current beliefs?

Not at all. IYT is non-dogmatic and entirely adaptable to and respectful of your worldview. While the model draws on ancient wisdom traditions including Yoga and Buddhism, the practices themselves are experiential, not belief-based. You are encouraged to experiment, see what feels true and useful for you, and leave the rest.

Practices are always optional and can be adapted in ways that feel meaningful and in alignment with your values and beliefs. Whether you’re secular, spiritual-but-not-religious, religious, questioning, curious or not curious, you are honored here.

How is this different from talk therapy or coaching?

Unlike traditional talk therapy, IYT works directly with the body, breath and energy systems as doorways to insight and therapeutic change. It blends psychological tools with somatic, relational and spiritual practices to help you move towards wellness on many levels. This technique is more experiential than coaching and centers evidence-informed practices, safety in the therapeutic relationship, and deep connection to your inner wisdom.

Is this trauma-informed?

Yes. IYT is designed with trauma sensitivity at its core. It integrates principles from Somatic Experiencing, IFS, Polyvagal Theory, eye movement therapies, and trauma-informed yoga to support healing without overwhelm. You will never be pushed into anything before you are ready, and pacing of sessions is always considerate of your needs.
